Loose stones are a common issue with poor chip seal jobs. We minimize this by using the correct grade of asphalt emulsion and ensuring heavy-duty compaction immediately after stone application. We also advise customers to drive slowly (under 15 MPH) for the first week to help “seat” the remaining loose stones, which can then be swept away. Our meticulous process maximizes stone retention.
Chip Seal is a significant upgrade from Gravel—it eliminates dust, erosion, and provides a stable surface. It’s often more durable than a thin asphalt overlay because the aggregate protects the binder from UV damage. While traditional, full-depth Asphalt Paving has the longest lifespan and highest weight capacity, Chip Seal offers the best balance of cost, durability, and low maintenance for long, residential-to-commercial-traffic roads.
A properly installed chip seal road by Al’s Paving typically lasts 7 to 10 years before requiring re-treatment. Maintenance is minimal; unlike asphalt, it doesn’t need regular seal coating.
